Paul Craine

Candidate for Middle, Isle of Man House of Keys election 2016

The "Isle of Man Population Atlas" was published in April 2016. This Atlas captures and presents the population of the Isle of Man through more than 130 imaginative maps and graphs and offers an authoritative commentary on a wide range of population issues. In particular it focus on the ways in which the Isle of Man's population is vulnerable outlining the evidence of population ageing, the emigration of young adults, population decline and falling numbers of births. The links below will take you to Paul Moulton's interviews about the book on MT-TV.……

Some quotes from the book

“It is impossible to overstate how important the population is to the economy of the Isle of Man”

“The biggest threat to the social and economic future of the Isle of Man... (is) the demographic reality that our nation is growing older”

“These trends (2011-2015) leave very little doubt that the Island’s steady population growth has come to an abrupt halt”

“Bride, Andreas, Lezayre, Maughold, German, Marown, Malew, Arbory and Port St Mary showed a marked narrowing in the 20-29 years age groups”

“Between 2010 and 2015 the number of births declined by 23.3%”

“In the 45-54 age group, less than one third of the population was born on-Island”

“One recurring theme in the commentary to this atlas is the vulnerability of the Isle of Man’s population”
